Student Learning Outcome: 3- Sense of Inquiry
Description of Artifact: This artifact is a presentation done on blindness and deafness in the mainstream classroom. It addresses the problems found in the mainstream classroom for students who have specific needs and offers solutions for teachers to better accommodate.
Artifact Alignment: The educational problem of accomdating students with vision and hearing is large in the US Classrooms. As a future educator, I have found what issues are presented in the classroom and what a teacher can do to accommodate better for students with hearing and vision needs.
Future Goal: I hope that students in my classroom are given everything they need in order to reach their absolute best academically and personally. Each student has their own unique abilities and challenges and we have to adapt to all students so that a classroom can be created to better serve them all.
Sense of Inquiry Reflection: The artifacts presented in this section show the importance of encouraging all students in inquiry in the classroom and solving for educational problems by presenting solutions. In order to have a successful classroom where students thrive, a teacher has to ensure proper classroom management, classroom organization, accommodation, and a place for student voice to be heard. I learned a lot about what my job will be in creating a classroom where all these factors work together cohesively. Classroom organization and management has to be the foundation for everything else mentioned in this section because without it, you cannot have a classroom that works well in the environment that is presented.
As a student at Saint Louis University, the Education Department does an amazing job to make sure we are ready for teaching in the real world. A class I took my first semester in Education focused on academics of exceptional individuals in the classroom. We covered everywhere from learning disabilities, to blindness, to ADHD. This presentation was created for that class, to show my peers how to accommodate and what to expect in a classroom where you have students who are blind or deaf/hard of hearing.
